Upon studying the current proposal for Barking riverside, it is clear that there are several issues that have come up. The current site hosts a very important social event through the Sunday market. Visitors and merchants from Barking and Dagenham borough as well as neighboring areas gather to trade and enjoy the market atmosphere. However, the Barking riverside development does not accommodate a new area for the market to take place. This means that an existing sense of locality and community may be lost in the process.
My intentions for the development is to therefore accommodate this space for the market to take place, but more importantly to allow it to influence the remainder of the development.
The following series of drawings illustrate how I intend the development and market to interact with each other through the four stages of construction.
